A multi-million dollar project to upgrade one of Coquitlam's oldest roads is nearly done.
But finishing the work along King Albert Avenue may be delayed until next year due to the colder and wet weather.
City engineer Mark Zaborniak said there were some deficiencies with the concrete and asphalt work by the contractor, which is responsible for paying for the repairs.
Zaborniak said there is a "social cost" to the deficiencies as a park, baseball diamond and school are along King Albert. "The road is functioning and we hope to have things in order this year, if not early next year," he said.
The price tag for the improvements along the 800 m corridor between Blue Mountain and Gatensbury streets was estimated last year at $2.7 million.
The work includes: repaving the existing street; adding curbs and gutters; installing a new pedestrian signal at Blue Mountain and King Albert; improving on-street parking; and adding a 3 m wide pathway and street lighting on the north side.
