A Coquitlam city councillor is asking for his colleagues' support in lobbying the B.C. government to reconsider its decision for administering the meningococcal conjugate vaccine.
At Monday's city council meeting, Coun. Neal Nicholson served a notice motion to raise awareness about the bloodstream-based bacterial infection that took the life of Coquitlam's Leo Chan in January.
The Pinetree secondary school graduate, who spent his Grade 12 work experience in Mayor Richard Stewart's office, was studying at the University of Victoria when he contracted the disorder and died. This summer, his parents spoke out about the need for the provincial government to adopt the MCV4 (Menactra) for teens and university students living in dorms.
City council is expected to debate Nicholson's motion at its Oct. 15 meeting.
