In March, Port Moody Mayor Rob Vagramov read from a prepared statement to announce he’s taking a leave of absence while he deals with a charge of sexual assault stemming from an incident that is alleged to have occurred in 2015.

The criminal case against Port Moody’s mayor was adjourned for two weeks today (Thursday).

But no reason was given to the Port Coquitlam provincial court for the delay.

Agents appearing for special prosecutor Michael Klein and defence lawyer Ian Donaldson, who is representing Mayor Robert Vagramov on the charge of sexual assault, asked the judge to move the matter to Aug. 22 at 9:30 a.m.

In June, Klein said Vagramov has consented to proceed summarily on the offence that is alleged to have happened in Coquitlam between April 1 and July 10, 2015.

That means a potentially smaller penalty if Vagramov is convicted, compared with an indictment proceeding.

Vagramov, who was elected to the top municipal job last October, has taken a leave of absence from his duties at city hall and, as of late June, he announced he would no longer be collecting his annual $111,833 salary while the case is before the court.

Vagramov, 27, denied the charge in March, during a press conference.
