Dozens of windows at School District 43 schools took a beating over the Easter long weekend, with most of the damage done at Sir Frederick Banting middle in Coquitlam and Glenayre elementary in Port Moody.

According to SD43's weekly vandalism report, 11 broken windows were reported on April 2 at Banting, with another 11 broken windows were reported the next day at Glenayre.

Banting principal Abby Soh said the school conducted an investigation and is dealing with the individual involved.

In recent years, vandalism in SD43 schools has been on the decline but occasionally numbers jump up owing to specific circumstances.

Other schools reporting broken windows were Citadel middle in Port Coquitlam as well as Meadowbrook and Parkland elementaries in Coquitlam and Mountain Meadows in PoMo but all reported just one broken window each.

Graffiti also was a problem over the weekend, with reports of damage at Lord Baden Powell, Cape Horn, Mountain View and Blakeburn elementary schools, Maple Creek, Como Lake and Citadel middle schools, and Heritage Woods secondary.

It costs approximately $125 to replace a window and staff time to repair graffiti damage.

SD43 asks people who see suspicious activity around schools to call Vandal Watch at 604-927-7600.
