The Evergreen Line is three years away from opening but commuters now know what the six Tri-City stations will be called.
At a press conference Saturday morning at the Evergreen Line project office in Coquitlam, federal and provincial politicians got together to announce the new station names.
They are, from Lougheed Town Centre Station in Burnaby eastward:
Burquitlam Station (on Clarke Road in Coquitlam);
Moody Centre Station (next to the current PoMo West Coast Express station);
Inlet Centre Station (at Ioco Road and Barnet Highway, near Thrifty Foods);
Coquitlam Central Station (at the current West Coast Express station and bus loop at Barnet and Lougheed, across from Coquitlam Centre mall);
Lincoln Station (on Pinetree Way at Lincoln Ave., in the northeast Coquitlam Centre parking lot);
and Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station, which is the line's terminus (on Pinetree Way at Guildford Way, next to the Evergreen Cultural Centre).
Ian Jarvis, TransLink's CEO, called them "simple, logical and self-locating, and, of course, durable, names."
Coquitlam Coun. Craig Hodge told The Tri-City News he's pleased with the choices of names, saying, "I think the main thing is they make sense geographically so it's going to be easy for people to understand."
He said the city had been using the names that were chosen as working names as part of its planning.
Port Moody Mayor Mike Clay said the Moody Centre name makes sense but he's not sure people will identify Inlet Centre with its location. He said he would have preferred something like "Port Moody-Ioco."
Also at the press conference, at which a sign was unveiled next to Barnet Highway, were Tri-City MP James Moore, Coquitlam-Burke Mountain MLA Doug Horne and B.C.'s transportation minister, Mary Polak.
