Volunteers needed for light duty at Mossom hatchery in Port Moody

If you're handy with a shovel or a paint brush, the Mossom Creek hatchery needs you.

If you're handy with a shovel or a paint brush, the Mossom Creek hatchery needs you.

The co-founder of the 40-year-old hatchery has put a call out for volunteers on Facebook today, Wednesday, calling for help with light construction duty on the site this week and for the foreseeable future.

The $1.2 million project rising on a gravel pad in the woods off Ioco Road in Port Moody is being coordinated by volunteers with funding from donors and in-kind work from local businesses, including Lafarge Canada.

But more help is needed to assist volunteers who are working at the site daily.

"If you are able to assist even for the occasional day or half day, we want you as soon as possible. You will need to bring your $5 membership if you are not paid up and wear a safety vest and hard hat that will be provided," Ruth Foster stated.

For more information, call Foster at 604-315-1507 and then report to Mel Steemson or or to Neil Laffra on site.
