Coquitlam is inviting families with young kids of all abilities to test their athleticism at a number of sports later this month.

The city's sports fair is welcoming 18 teams, groups and organizations to Town Centre Park on Aug. 19.

The free annual event, rain or shine, will see a variety of try-it stations set up in allowing interested participants to see if their talents match up to a respective sport's challenge.

"This is the perfect opportunity to find your sporting niche and inspire your athletic potential," said Kevin D. Powell, Coquitlam's outdoor sports supervisor, in a release today (Aug. 3).

"Whether you're interested in water polo, futsal, rugby, ice hockey or off-road cycling, you'll find a sport that resonates with your passion."

Informational booths will also be on display for those looking to get involved as a coach or volunteer, Powell added.

Prospective athletes can participate in mini-games and cool down with free slushies, too.

The Coquitlam Sports Fair is scheduled for Aug. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at North Field #6 in Town Centre Park.

Residents and families are encouraged to RSVP in advance by visiting the City of Coquitlam's Facebook page.
