A Port Coquitlam woman will be telling her story of how a late-in-life layoff led to her blossoming as a social media consultant.
Christine Till, who has written the book "Fired and Wired at 50" will tell her story Sunday, at 4:30 p.m. at the 12th annual West Coast Women's Show at the Tradex Trade and Exhibition Centre in Abbotsford.
She'll describe how she was shown the door after years of employment and spent months trying to find work. "When you're over 50, try to find a job," Till told The News.
"You have this flash that goes before you that's like 'I'm worthless, I'm on the scrap heap,'" she said.
But after getting nowhere in the traditional job market, the elder care specialist figured out how to use social media and make it work for her. She had already been making podcasts, called Elder Care 911, and, with the support of her tech-savvy son, started to promote, it.
"I was dragged into social media kicking and screaming," she said but Till ended up coaching businesses on using Linkedin to generate sales.
She'll explain more about influence publishing at her talk Sunday. Partial proceeds from her book will go to seniors programs at Wilson Centre in Port Coquitlam.
