Waste-free gift app rolls out in Port Coquitlam

Metro Vancouver promotes Merry Memory Maker App
Memory app
Port Coquitlam Mayor Greg Moore and Shelby, a Port Coquitlam ambassador, test out the new Merry Memory Maker App to get ideas for gifts that don’t create a lot of garbage.

If you’re shopping for last minute gift ideas, maybe consider gifts that create memories instead of garbage.

At least that’s the idea behind the latest Metro Vancouver campaign that encourages people to find alternatives to traditional gift-giving that is often overly-packaged and quickly trashed.

To help people make smart choices, the regional authority has developed an app that gives you experiences or thoughtful and practical gift ideas for your friends and loved ones at various price points.

For example, if you only have up to $15 to spend, you could make a recipe book for someone, take a child to a ball pit or purchase someone a journal or a pair of wool socks.

The idea is to celebrate the holidays without creating a lot of waste and on Saturday, Dec. 16 the campaign was rolled out at Hyde Creek Recreational Centre where Port Coquitlam Mayor Greg Moore was on hand to try out the Merry Memory Maker App.
