Watercolours and hot wax: Three exhibits open in Port Coquitlam

PORT COQUITLAM — Here's some of the exhibits around PoCo right now as the city also gears up to host a big art summit next month.

Two new group shows, plus a solo exhibit using hot wax, are now up in galleries around Port Coquitlam.

Yesterday, Sept. 27, the city installed a display from the International Watercolour Society of Canada called Stories in Light, in the Michael Wright Art Gallery at the Gathering Place at Leigh Square.

The show coincides with the society’s annual summit that will be held in PoCo from Oct. 12 to 17 and is being organized with the city’s Art Focus Artists Association.

Meanwhile, next door in The Outlet gallery, is an exhibit about immigration titled Neither Here Nor There, but Everywhere. Neither Then Nor Now, but Forever that's produced by:

  • Natasha Boskic
  • Linda Haftner
  • Pierre Leichner
  • Alex Lavrov
  • Johnny Tai
  • Barbara Tevarotto

And, in the city hall gallery, is Wax Fusion by Port Coquitlam artist Angela Tahara.

A PoCo resident for 30 years, Tahara started as a sculptor but moved to the realm of oil and encaustic painting.

The opening reception for the three displays is on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Leigh Square. For more details about the exhibits and artists, visit the city’s website.
