Tri-Cities residents have two opportunities to experience the lights and the sounds of the 2022 CP Holiday Train.

On Sunday (Dec. 18), the Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train is scheduled to roll through the region with visits in Port Moody and Port Coquitlam — the final two stops of its 24th annual tour across the country.

It will host a show at each location by Juno-nominated Canadian artists MacKenzie Porter and Derik Baker (also known as Virginia to Vegas).

Port Moody will be the first stop on the Tri-Cities tour, pulling in behind the recreation centre (300 Ioco Rd.) at 4:45 p.m. and leaving around 5:30 p.m.

Parking is available at the recreation centre and the train location is within walking distance of Inlet Centre Station on SkyTrain.

CP will end its 2022 circuit in Port Coquitlam at Kingsway Avenue (roughly behind PoCo Building Supplies) between Mary Hill Road and Wilson Avenue with the show taking place from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

People are advised to dress for the weather and have a reflective item on their clothing to make sure they can be seen when crossing the streets in the dark.

Road closures

As well, road closures will be in place in Port Coquitlam for Kingsway Avenue between Mary Hill Road and Wilson Avenue from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Free parking is available downtown, as well as at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC).

In addition to the arrival of the train, the City of Port Coquitlam is set to offer two public skating times on Dec. 18 at the PCCC from 12 to 2 p.m. and a skate with Santa from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Donations for food bank

The 1,000-foot train will brake at its respective stops, open its stage doors and perform a setlist for a crowd of hundreds of local residents looking to take in the holiday spirit.

The holiday train features 14 rail cars this year covered in special designs and lit by hundreds of thousands of LED lights.

Cash or non-perishable items for the SHARE Family and Community Service food bank is welcome.
