Why IKEA in Coquitlam is celebrating 'Hej Days' with food, shopping deals

IKEA in Coquitlam is celebrating "Hej" days this weekend, starting today.

It's not every day one of the Tri-Cities' biggest stores celebrates 80 years in business.

But that's what's happening this weekend with Hej Days, which is being celebrated in all Canadian IKEA stores, including Coquitlam.

The Coquitlam store is located at 1000 Lougheed Hwy.

Starting today, Sept. 22, the Sweden-based retailer is offering special deals on restaurant meals, home accessories and services for IKEA Family members.

"Get ready to say 'hej' to the first-ever Hej Days event, a celebration of all things IKEA," a news release states.

"We're celebrating 80 years of innovation, design and Swedishness, with our biggest event of the year, from September 22-25."

"Hej" means hello in Swedish and the event is a way to greet shoppers in a celebratory fashion.

Here's what's on offer this weekend:

15 per cent off home accessories 

  • IKEA is offering a discount on accessories from dinnerware, storage boxes and bedding to candles, lighting, and other essentials.

Discounted delivery, parcel, assembly

  • IKEA Family loyalty program members save 50 per cent on IKEA services like parcel, doorstep and in-home delivery to valid shipping addresses in Canada (excluding Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and select addresses in the Maritimes). Terms and conditions apply. 

Deals on meals

  • BOGO (Buy one get one) free meatball plate (Sept. 22)  
  • $2 Breakfast (Sept. 23–24)  
  • 20 per cent off Haddock and Fries (Sept.25)
