A 56-year-old woman was taken to hospital after fire broke out at a home in the 600-block of Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam on Saturday morning.
Fire Chief Jim Ogloff said investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, however they do not believe it is suspicious. He added that they are waiting to speak with the victim before making a final conclusion.
"It is probably going to take a couple of weeks," he said. "Right now it is undetermined, but not suspicious."
The source of the flames was located in an office room and witnesses saw a badly burned woman climbing out of the window of the one-storey home.
She was the only person who was home at the time of the incident and was taken to Vancouver General Hospital with what Ogloff called "fairly serious burns" to her upper body.
"She was outside when our guys got there," he said.
Significant fire damage was sustained in the room where investigators believe the fire started, however there was smoke damage throughout the house, Ogloff added. He said it is likely that the home will have to be torn down.
