The story

On April 18, 1913, Port Coquitlam's pioneers put on their finest clothes and celebrated the inauguration of their new municipality.

One hundred years later, PoCo residents commemorated the city's centennial in much the same way.

Dinners, dances and community events were held throughout the year, putting PoCo Pride on display for all to see. The city kicked off the centennial year with a launch party at the recreation complex in January and marked the April 18 inauguration date with its annual homecoming celebration.

The Fashion Through the Decades fashion show and luncheon at the Wilson Centre on March 28 allowed residents to flash back to past generations while a time capsule was buried at city hall containing photographs and digital items that will be opened in 2038.

Even regularly scheduled annual events took on special significance in PoCo's 100th year, including May Day, the Terry Fox Hometown Run and the Rivers and Trails Festival.

The latest

There are still four more months until PoCo's centennial year officially comes to an end but, sadly, the events and fanfare have tapered off.

See you in 2038 for the 125th birthday?
