In February, the city of Port Moody erected a humorous Code of Conduct sign (right) in its ice rink that politely gave five reminders to potentially overly intense parents and spectators. It stated:
"Please remember:
1. These are kids.
2. This is a game.
3. Parents should cheer for everyone.
4. The referees are human.
5. You and your child do not play for the Canucks."
A photo of the sign was captured by The Tri-City News and posted to Facebook. And over the past 11 months, it has generated an unprecedented 140,180 views and 180 comments.
The chatter has been, for the most part, supportive of the city (the Vancouver Canucks issued a statement saying they had no knowledge the name would be used).
At the time, city officials said they hoped to install more code of conduct reminders at outdoor fields; however, that has yet to happen, a spokesperson said.
