The winners are in and several Port Moody businesses are now basking in the glow of a 2014 Spike Award.
The economic development committee considered more than 450 nominations, honouring about 20 local businesses at the gala event at the Inlet Theatre last week.
Yellow Dog Brewery Co., open just three months ago on Murray Street, won in the Tourist Destination category (Rocky Point Ice Cream earned the honourable mention slot). It was another feather in the cap for the PoMo business, which went on to earn top honours at the BC Beer Awards over the weekend.
At the latter event, Yellow Dog's Shake A Paw Smoked Brown Porter picked up Best in Show, beating out 465 other entries from breweries throughout the province.
Back to the Spike Awards, the Gallery Bistro on Clarke Street won for Arts in Business (Beyond the Grape, honourable mention) while Pinball Alley Vintage won for Street Appeal (Village Toy Shop, honourable mention).
Looking for great customer service? Head to Healing Cedar Wellness, the winner in that category, or Revive Hair and Body Lounge, which earned an honourable mention.
Keeping things green is the LFT Group, which won the Environmental Sustainability award (Reed Point Marina, honourable mention) and the business keeping its employees happy is BTM Lawyers LLP, which won Employer of Choice. If you'd rather work at a park than a law firm, check out honourable mention winner Rocky Point Ice Cream and Rocky Point Kayak.
Pin Up Hair Boutique was named best home-based business, with Waddling Woofer notching an honourable mention.
Businesses staying ahead of the pack are Pacific Coast Terminals and Port Moody Integrated Health, which won top spot and honourable mention, respectively, in the technology and innovation category.
New kids on the block Shop Local Port Moody won for the best one-minute pitch.
