According to a news release, the tool shares data of the four types of property crimes collected from the past two years.

It will be updated three times a year in Coquitlam and quarterly in Port Coquitlam, after RCMP have issued their reports to their respective city councils.

Spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said the data will allow residents to take proactive steps to safeguard their property and discourage crime.

She added making the information available also increases the detachment’s accountability and transparency.

While the tool displays specific instances of property crime, the actual markers are approximate to protect victims' privacy.
