A 19-year-old victim was located and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Surrey RCMP have since revealed that charges have been laid against 20-year-old Benjamin Sultan Sabetnia.

The Coquitlam resident was arrested and was in custody at the time of the announcement of his charges.

Sabetnia has been charged with the following offences:

  • aggravated assault,
  • using a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • robbery with a firearm
  • discharging a firearm with intent

A spokesperson for the Surrey RCMP said the incident caused concern in the community.

This shooting took place within a residential neighbourhood in our community, causing grave concern to those who live in the area, said media relations officer Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

Investigators recognize the importance of following the evidence in each case, and identifying those responsible so they can be brought before the courts.

Police did not say how Sabetnia was identified as a suspect in the shooting.

However, at the time of the shooting, Surrey RCMP called for information and dash cam footage from the area.
