Your Weekend: CP Rail Holiday Train toots into Port Moody, Port Coquitlam

The CP Rail holiday train is making a stop in Blackie on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. in support of local food banks.

Friday, Dec. 16

STITCH CIRCLE

Bring your knitting, crochet, cross stitch and embroidery projects to the Port Moody Public Library (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.) for a Stitching Circle. The social group for crafters runs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the ParkLane Room. Registration is required.

FESTIVE FELTING

Make some felted ornaments and gifts for the holidays at the Festive Felting pARTy@PdA — or Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam). The workshop at 7 p.m. will see participants using wet felting techniques to make decorations and potholders. Tickets are $26 per person, or $42 for two people.

HOLMES, YOU SAY?    

Director Mandy Tulloch brings Holmes for the Holidays to the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) until Dec. 17. The play tells the tale of William Gillette, a Broadway star who has invited his fellow castmates to his castle for the weekend. Rob Hartley plays Gilette.

LIGHTS AT LAFARGE

Take a walk around Lafarge Lake at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) to see the million coloured lights twinkling for the season. Tonight, the city’s Park Spark crew features Deck the Castle Festive while, on Saturday, it’s Jingle Bells Night.

SANTA FOX BALL

The radio station CFOX 99.3 FM hosts its Santa Fox Christmas Ball at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver (2080 United Blvd., Coquitlam) featuring Daniel Wesley, Spendo and Teller & The Tale. The adult-only party in The Show Theatre is a fundraiser for the SHARE Family and Community Society. Canned food donations for the SHARE food bank will be accepted.

BOOK WORMS

Join librarians at the Port Moody Public Library on Facebook as they make book recommendations for the holidays. The one-hour event via the library’s Facebook page starts at 10 a.m.

SEE THE LIGHT

Families can learn about Diwali, Hannukah, Kwanzaa and winter solstice at Celebration of Light, held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Mackin House Museum (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam). CP HOLIDAY TRAIN

The CP Holiday Train ends its cross-country journey tonight, stopping in Port Moody (behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Rd.) at 4:45 p.m. for a half-hour show at 5 p.m. with rising country star MacKenzie Porter and Virginia to Vegas. Their trip ends in Port Coquitlam at 6:15 p.m. at the West Coast Express station (Kingsway Avenue) with a concert from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. The ride is raising donations (money and non-perishables) for the SHARE food bank.
