The Dr. Charles Best secondary Blue Devils will begin their quest for a AAA soccer provincial championship this week.
The club is scheduled to take on Mount Boucherie and Winston Churchill secondary in the early rounds of the tournament after finishing in first place in the North Zone division.
Best will play a third game on Friday and depending on where they end up after the round-robin portion of the tournament, could be playing playoff games by the weekend.
The club steamrolled its way through the Fraser Valley Championships, defeating Semiahmoo 10-1 in the first game, before taking down Abbotsford 3-1 during a Halloween match.
The club lost to Sullivan Heights and Panorama Ridge secondary at home but a win against Earl Marriott last week gave the team a berth in the provincial tournament.
Best is the only Tri-City club to appear in the B.C. championship and finished the regular season with a 7-0 record.
Terry Fox, the next best team in the North Fraser division, also had a strong Fraser Valley playoffs but was edged out of a chance to participate in the provincial tourney.
The club finished its session with a 5-1-1 record, and went 2-2 in the playoffs.
REBELS NOTCH WIN AGAINST RICHMOND
The Coquitlam Rebels improved their season record to 8-2-1 after defeating Richmond FC 1-0 on Sunday in under-13 Metro Select girls soccer.
The Rebels dominated the first half but could not break down Richmond's defensive formation in the lower third of the field.
Finally, midfielder Sarah Hilford got Coquitlam on the board on a free kick from five yards outside the box after the Richmond goalie was penalized for a hand ball.
The Rebel defenders saw the match through with Madison Ciulla, Maiya Callister and Milena Wilson shutting down Richmond's offence all game.
The club will return to Town Centre Park next week to take on Vancouver FC.
