The cream always rises to the top.

Saturday, the Coquitlam Adanacs put a lid on their BC Junior A Lacrosse League semifinal playoff series against the Nanaimo Timbermen with a convincing 9-4 win at Frank Crane Arena.

The Adanacs won the series, 4-2, after an 8-4 victory Friday in Coquitlam. They now advance to the league final, and a guaranteed opportunity to defend their Minto Cup national championship as one of two western teams contesting the title that is being hosted at the Langley Events Centre.

Saturday, the Adanacs scored the first four goals of the game before the Timbermen’s Kyle Dawson scored three times to narrow the deficit to one.

But it didn’t take long for the visitors to respond as Haiden Dickson sparked a five-goal run for Coquitlam that put the game, and series, out of reach.

Nanaimo’s Dawson closed our the scoring with his fourth goal of the game.

Friday, the Adanacs led 2-0 after the first period and 4-2 after the second to seize the series lead from the Timbermen, who had proven to be a thorn in Coquitlam’s side all season. Of the six games Coquitlam lost in the regular season and first round of the post-season, four of them have been to Nanaimo.

Dennon Armstrong had four points to lead the Adanacs’ attack. Nate Facing stopped 39 of the 43 shots he faced.

Coquitlam now awaits the winner of the other semifinal series between the New Westminster Salmonbellies and the Victoria Shamrocks. Those teams are tied with two wins apiece. Game five is being played later Saturday and game six is scheduled for Tuesday.
