All-Stars eye semifinals despite second loss

The Coquitlam All-Stars dug themselves into a three-run hole in the first inning and couldn’t quite climb their way out of it, as they lost their second game at the BC Little League Majors provincial championship, 3-2 to Dunbar, on Wednesday.

The loss drops the All-Stars’ record in the seven-team tournament to three wins and two losses, tied with Hastings and Little Mountain. Dunbar has four wins and one loss to sit atop the standings heading into today’s final round of preliminary games before Saturday’s semifinals.

Brady Dorwart took the loss, as he gave up the three runs in four-and-one-third innings. Third baseman Matt Shanley hit his sixth homerun of the tournament. He also has a tournament-leading 12 runs batted in.

The All-Stars play District 7 champions, Layritz, this afternoon at 12 p.m, at Hillcrest Park in Vancouver.
