Coquitlam's Mathew Barzal was among 28 male hockey players to be short-listed for potential participation on Team BC at the 2012 Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup set for Nov. 1-4 in Calgary, it was announced Tuesday.
Barzal is aiming to snag one of 20 available roster spots on Team BC.
A Burnaby Winter Club product, the forward Barzal was the first overall choice by the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Western Hockey League's annual Bantam draft in May.
Barzal racked up 107 points in 35 games last season.
