Tri-City girls helped Team BC reach gold at the Female National Box Lacrosse Championships.
Team BC outlasted Ontario 12-4 Sunday in Halifax to take gold in the junior division.
Coquitlam's Kyra Bradley and Langley's Ashley Bull led the championships in scoring, each finishing with 10 goals and seven assists in five games. Coquitlam's Kirsten Walter was the tournament's top goaltender, compiling a 3-0 record and 2.33 goals against average in three games.
"This team was the epitome of hard work and discipline over talent," said Team BC head coach Blair Bradley. "All players played the final match and every person on the roster contributed to a real team victory."
Coquitlam's Raylene Robinson and Amanda Shovar along with Port Coquitlam's Riley Washington also played for Team BC, as well as Kaitlyn Savitsky and Sidney Roy, who both play for Coquitlam.
Bradley said one of the girls came up with the slogan, 'Til the last' and the girls took it to heart, pushing themselves to the last second of each shift.
"The girls bought into a system of 3/2 transition which allowed us to fast break and forecheck to a point that the other teams were exhausted," said Bradley.
At the Box Lacrosse Provincial Championships, the Port Coquitlam Saints downed the Coquitlam Adanacs 5-2 Sunday to take gold in the midget A1 division.
The Coquitlam squad knocked off Juan de Fuca 7-1 to claim bronze in the A2 division. PoCo's Brodie Gillespie won the MVP award for the A1 division.
