Bell takes over bench duties for Port Coquitlam Jr. Saints

Bob Bell will take over head coaching duties of the Port Coquitlam Saints when the B.C. Jr. 'A' Lacrosse League season gets underway next year.

Bell, who coached the 2014 B.C. Intermediate 'A' squad to a gold medal win at the lacrosse provincials last year, will bing a "vast array of experience to the Saints Jr. 'A' program," said general manager Ken Woolard.

In a statement, the team added that "with Bob Bell at the helm there is no doubt that the Junior 'A' program will proceed to the next level required to win a championship."

Bell was also named coach of the year in 1997 and 2014 for his work in the intermediate lacrosse league. The new PoCo coach will have his work cut out for him. Last season, the club finished last in the BCJALL with a 2-18-1 record.

IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS AT BASKETBALL CAMP

The PoCo North Basketball Club is holding tryouts for the upcoming 2014-15 season this weekend at Terry Fox secondary.

The organization, which helps develop young players between grades five and eight at a highly competitive level, acts as a feeder system for secondary schools. Club members compete in the North Cascades League that plays out of Lynden, Bellingham, Sedro Wooley, Anacotes, Ferndale and Burlington and takes part in many tournaments throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The rosters of the Terry Fox Ravens and the Heritage Woods Kodiaks currenty boast 20 PoCo North alums.

The tryouts will take place on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 between noon and 2 p.m. at Terry Fox secondary. For more information go to poconorthbball.weebly.com.
