Marc Fitzgerald has been named BCHL broadcaster of the year in a poll of all the play-by-play radio personalities in the league.
The Port Coquitlam native called every game for the Chilliwack Chiefs since the franchise re-joined the BCHL in for the 2011-12 season and said he was surprised by the honour.
"It means so much because that's 15 other guys that are incredibly talented and driven," he said. "A lot of those guys I consider my friends and I'm floored to be singled out. Your peers are the ones you listen to the most. It means so much."
Before landing in Chilliwack, Fitzgerald held broadcasting posts in Chetwynd, B.C., and Brooks, Alta. He noted his career highlights so far include calling the 2012 Chiefs series against the eventual RBC Cup champions the Penticton Vees and the 2013 series against Prince George.
Fitzgerald said that he has been pleased to be able to work in a hockey city so close to his hometown and enjoys working with colour commentary man and former Chiefs forward Cam Campbell.
"We did every game for three season and there's no way I'd be getting this without him," he said. "He's one of the best colour men and analysts in the BCHL. It was an excellent pairing we've had for three years."
