Coquitlam teen Amy Byun showed her martial arts chops two weekends ago, beating out 130 black belts to win the Sun Hang Do Grand Champion Finals.

During the two-day tournament held at BCIT in Burnaby, the 15-year-old Dr. Charles Best secondary student faced competitors from across the Lower Mainland in four categories: patterns, weapons, sparring and stand-up grappling.

Over 2,500 people watched as Byun was presented the top martial arts honour by Grand Master Kang during the main event. Byun, who has been training at Sun Hang Do Coquitlam for over five years, recently received her second-degree black belt.
