The Centennial Centaurs continued their win streak into the Fraser Valley tournament on Tuesday with a lopsided victory over Brookswood secondary in AAA girls' soccer.

Centennial defeated the Langley squad 4-0 as the team jockeys for position on its way to the upcoming provincial championship in Kamloops.

Olivia Aguiar was dominant, netting two goals and dishing out two assists, while teammates Sarah Furney and Sophia Fabbro added the insurance markers.

Ayana Boyd-Joseph did not face many shots, however she was able to stop every ball that came her way to secure the shutout.

"The back line gave up few chances," said Centennial coach Larry Moro. "Ayana... had little work in earning the shutout."

The Centaurs, who were 7-1-0 during the regular season, were expected to take on Fleetwood Park Thursday night (after The Tri-City News' deadline). A win in that match would secure a berth in the provincial championship.

But Centennial is not the only Tri-City school with a stake in the Fraser Valley playoffs.

Charles Best, which went 6-2-0 in the regular season, defeated Delta in their first round matchup Tuesday night. The team needed extra time to win the game, which was tied 0-0 after regulation, as they took the game with penalty kicks. The squad was expected to play Lord Tweedsmuir in Cloverdale. A win in that match would secure the squad's position in the provincial championship.

Not all Tri-City soccer teams were successful in their first round.

The sixteenth seed Heritage Woods Kodiaks struggled against South Delta when the Port Moody team played at Winskill Park Tuesday night. The Kodiaks played a strong game but were unable to best their opponents, eventually losing 3-2.

The top six squads in the 16-team Fraser Valley tournament are eligible to go to the provincials, which will be held in Kamloops June 2 to 4. For more information go to www.fraservalley.webs.com.
