Centennial gets ready for Seaquam, Ravens take on Mission in road game

The Centennial Centaurs AAA football team will look to end its exhibition season on a high note when the club takes on Seaquam secondary this weekend.

The Centennial Centaurs AAA football team will look to end its exhibition season on a high note when the club takes on Seaquam secondary this weekend.

Cents coach Barry Taitinger told The Tri-City News on Wednesday that this week's opponent, who will be visiting Percy Perry Stadium tonight (Friday, Sept.12), will be a good opportunity to acquire some much needed experience before all the high school teams start their regular season schedule next week.

"Seaquam has a good program," he said. "They went down to the U.S. this year and played a game We are using these exhibition games to focus on what we need to do to play better."

Taitinger has watched Seaquam's game from last week, when the club was beaten 31-0 by a powerhouse South Delta squad. He said it was difficult to scout Seaquam's defence because Delta runs a different offence from the Centaurs.

"They run two back sets, which we don't do," he said.

The Centaurs also struggled offensively in its first exhibition game of the year last week against the New Westminster Hyacks.

New West took a five-point lead after the first series of the game, however Centennial was able to take the lead when Matthew Danieli intercepted a pass at the 40-yard line and ran in a 60-yard touchdown.

But a blocked punt late in the third quarter gave the Hyacks an opportunity to retake the lead and New West ended up winning the game 11-6.

RAVENS

The Terry Fox Ravens are scheduled to take on Mission secondary this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

This will be the first time the Ravens have have suited up for exhibition play this season, after a game against an American school was cancelled in early September.

Ravens head coach Tom Kudaba told The Tri-City News on Wednesday that he would not be commenting about the upcoming game.
