To celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay coming to the Tri-Cities, show Canadian spirit, and to kick-off the 2010 Winter Games, Coquitlam Centre is hosting a community celebration event Feb. 11 from 3 to 8 p.m.
Hosted by Taylor Jukes, daytime on-air for Virgin Radio 953 Vancouver, this special event will feature performances from the top 10 finalists in the Coquitlam Centre Tri-Cities Songwriting Contest, along with performances by The Latency, The Colin Grieve Band, Merge, Precision Dance Academy, and Port Moody School of Dance.
There will also be two mini fashion shows presented by The Bay featuring Team Canada and Vancouver 2010 clothing lines for women, men and children. The awards ceremony for the songwriting contest will be the highlight of the celebration, with the grand prize winner taking away $1,000 in Coquitlam Centre gift cards; more than $1,500 in secondary and discretionary prizes will also be awarded.
The top 10 finalists are: Ben Hwang; Biniam Derese; Brad Lovell; Chanse Lovell; Elsa Sainas; Emily Hagerty; Joyelle Brandt; Lea Sheldan; Mark Sheldan; and Tyler Shaw. The event takes place in the mall centre court on the lower level.
