Coquitlam Express lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Langley Rivermen Saturday at the George Preston Arena.

The Coquitlam Express scored twice in the last three minutes to tie the Langley Rivermen, but couldn’t keep the momentum going through overtime and a shootout and lost 5–4 in their BC Hockey League game, Saturday at the George Preston Arena.

The teams exchanged goals in the first and second period to head into the third tied 1-1. That’s when the offence really wound up.

Gabriel Guilbault put the home team ahead 2-1 just 28 seconds after the break.

Michael Rubin got the Express back on even terms five minutes later, scoring his second of the season on the powerplay. But it was Rubin in the box when Langley reclaimed the lead with less than seven minutes left in regulation time.

Reilley Kotai increased the Rivermen’s advantage to 4-2 at 15:14 before the late goals by Coquitlam’s Jackson Krill and Gavin Giesbrecht sent the game into extra time.

Neither team was able to score in the 10-minute overtime, although Coquitlam outshot the host team, 5-3.

Langley’s Aaron Reierson was the only player to score in the shootout.

The Express travel to Vancouver Island next weekend for games against Cowichan Valley on Saturday and the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday. The team’s next home game is Oct. 13 when the Surrey Eagles visit Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
