The Coquitlam Express are off to slow start so far this BCHL season but managed to come away with the single point during Tuesday night's bout against the West Kelowna Warriors.
The Coquitlam club is currently in the middle of the pack with a 1-3-1 record, good enough for third place in the Mainland Division, behind the 4-1 Prince George Spruce Kings.
West Kelowna struck first at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex Tuesday night, when Jason Cotton scored on the power play just over one minute into the game.
Colton Kerfoot managed to tie things up for the home team, before Daniel Fritz made it 2-1 for the Express with a power play marker of his own. He added his second goal of the game with the man-advantage in the second period before Brett Supinski scored unassisted and Corey Mackin made it 5-2 for the Express midway through the middle frame.
But the visitors were undeterred.
Ryan Ivey scored West Kelowna's third goal of the game and Jonathan Desbiens tied things up with two unanswered goals seven minutes apart in the third period.
Brett Minnear potted the game-winner in overtime to notch the 6-5 win for Kelowna.
Coquitlam was victorious in another close game last Saturday against the Prince George Spruce Kings at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
Despite the fact the visitors took the lead in the opening period with a goal from Braiden Epp, Mackin and Owen Stout notched a goal each to turn things around for Coquitlam in the middle frame.
Kerfoot scored his second of the season early in the third period to cushion the 3-1 lead.
Prince George managed to get a second goal off the stick of Jake LeBrun but could not find the equalizer, eventually losing 3-2.
With the win, Coquitlam was able to avenge the previous night's 5-3 loss to the Spruce Kings, in a game that saw six power play goals.
There was lots of action in the first period as Supinski and Express forward Joey Santucci both scored singles.
Things were knotted at 2-2 when Prince George's Taylor Allan scored on the power play, but Coquitlam tied things up with an unassisted marker from Anthony Gardner.
That would be the last time a Coquitlam player would find the back of the Spruce Kings' net.
Prince George's Justin Rai gave his team the go-ahead goal with two minutes left in the second before scoring again on the power play in the third period to help his team to a 5-3 win.
Coquitlam will continue its home stand today (Friday, Oct. 3) against Langley at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. game against Nanaimo on Sunday (Oct. 5) at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. For more information click here.
