The Coquitlam Express needs to win Friday (April 7) if it’s to stay alive in its opening round BC Hockey League (BCHL) playoff series against the Chilliwack Chiefs.

The Express trails the best-of-seven series three games to one after a 7-2 loss to the Chiefs in Chilliwack on Wednesday (April 5).

Coquitlam surrendered two goals in 38 seconds late in the first period and never recovered.

The home team scored three more times in the second period before the visitors finally got on the scoreboard on a goal by Evan Brown at 14:54.

Liam Tanner made it 5-2 midway through the third period, but that’s as close as the Express got.

Austin McNicholas turned away 23 of the 25 shots he faced in Chilliwack’s net.

Game Five of the series is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

If a sixth game is needed, it’ll go Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
