The Coquitlam Express will play the Surrey Eagles for the championships of the BC Hockey League’s Mainland division.
The best-of-seven series begins Friday, 7 p.m., at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam. Game two will be played Sunday, 7:30 p.m. also at Poirier.
The Express eliminated the Langley Rivermen in four straight games in the playoffs’ opening round. But it took the Eagles, which finished third in the Mainland division in the regular season standings, seven games to dispatch the second-place Chilliwack Chiefs.
Surrey defeated the Chiefs, 3-2, in Sunday’s deciding game in Chilliwack.
The Express and Eagles met eight times in the regular season, with Coquitlam winning six of those games. Their most recent encounter was a 3-1 victory by the Eagles in Coquitlam on Feb. 19.
