The Coquitlam Adanacs scored provincial gold at the B.C. Intermediate B lacrosse championships last weekend in Maple Ridge.
Coquitlam edged Juan de Fuca 6-5 in the gold-medal game. Chris Turenne notched a pair for the Adanacs, who also got scoring from Tyson Abbott, Riley Crosby, Danny Hagerty and Kyle Weir.
"We led 6-1 going into the third, and to Juan de Fuca's credit they really poured it on thick but the boys never buckled under the pressure," said Adanacs manager Greg Bodin.
Coquitlam went 3-0 in the round robin, knocking off Port Moody 9-5, hammering Delta 13-1 and doubling Juan de Fuca 10-5.
Alex Bodin led the Adanacs in scoring over the tournament with four goals and six assists, with Trevor Chernoff netting six goals and three assists, Kyle Weir totaling six goals and two assists and Riley Crosby finishing with five goals and three assists.
Coquitlam's Christian Del Bianco, a Midget A-1 call-up, was named top goalie and tournament MVP. Alex Bodin and Hayden Budnick were named to the tournament all-star team, along with Cordel Maunder and Robbie Minni with the Port Moody Thunder, who took the bronze.
The Coquitlam squad finished fourth in the Intermediate A provincials, falling 12-11 to Victoria in the bronze-medal game. Josh Kemp was named to the all-star team.
The Adanacs had compiled a 15-3 record to win the Intermediate B league championship, with Chernoff being named MVP and Rob Glancy coach of the year. Gino Lo Giancco of Port Coquitlam was named the league's top goalie. Chernoff, Jared Best and David Manky were named to the all-star team along with Scott Whittaker of Port Moody.
"Everything fell into place perfectly over the course of the season to help these kids get to where they were," said Bodin.
