The Coquitlam Redlegs split a doubleheader against the Whalley Jr. Chiefs on the road last weekend in two games that were both decided by a single run.
In the first matchup, the home team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Coquitlam responded with three runs of their own. Ryan Adamoski scored after earlier during the Redlegs at bats, before Aaron Gardner hit a triple that sent Brett Sheppard and Wyatt Schnorr home.
The game stayed knotted at 3-3 for the next five innings until Whalley broke the logjam in the bottom of the seventh, when Arthur Mudry-Lee sent Andy Kliewer home on a single.
Things went better for the Redlegs during the first half of the second game, where the team jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings.
However, four runs in the fifth and two more in the second put Coquitlam behind going into the seventh, where the team was able to tie things. The Redlegs scored in extra innings to win the second match 9-8.
Coquitlam is currently in the middle of the back in the B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League standings in fifth place with an 8-8 record.
The Redlegs will be back at Mundy Park this weekend when they host the Victoria Jr. Eagles in a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.
