A pair of Coquitlam rinks are in the running for the B.C. Junior Curling Championship.

Team Habkirk and Team Egan, out of the Coquitlam Curling Centre, will be among the 16 teams that take to the ice in search of the junior provincial title at the Chilliwack Curling Club from Dec. 26-31.

The Habkirk rink - made up of skip Kyle Habkirk, third Ryan Harbrink, second Kevin Harbrink and lead Kento Sato - includes three members of the gold-medal team at the 2013 Tim Hortons B.C. Juvenile Championships.

On the junior women's side, Port Coquitlam's Briana Egan skips the rink of third Caitlin Campbell, second Janice Pang and lead Angelique Miller.

Team Habkirk advanced to the provincials by winning the C final at last weekend's Coastal Playdown held at the Coquitlam Curling Club.

Habkirk's rink scored four in the 10th to get past the Coquitlam rink skipped by Matthew McCrady 8-6 in the C final. Habkirk earlier claimed a 6-5 win in a back-and forth contest with Connar Croteau's Victoria rink. Habkirk was knocked out of the B event by Victoria's Paul Henderson 10-3 in eight ends. The Coquitlam rink opened the B event with a 6-3 win over Brayden Carpenter of Royal City. Team Habkirk opened the playdowns with a 9-4 loss to Cody Tanaka's rink from the Tunnel Town/Langley Curling Club.

Team Egan needed only seven ends to wrap up a 13-3 win over Kirsten Zucchet's rink out of Chilliwack in the B event final. The Egan rink opened the play downs with an 11-8 victory over the Langley rink skipped by Taylor Mykle-Winkler. An 11-4 loss to Dezaray Hawes of the Royal City Curling Club knocked Egan from the A event.

The two Coquitlam rinks aren't the only Tri-City curlers who are vying for a shot at the junior championship.

Dezaray Hawes of Anmore is the skip for Team Hawes out of the Royal City Curling Club and Coquitlam's Ashley Sanderson is the lead with Team Van Osch from the Nanaimo Curling Centre and Delta Thistle Curling Club.

Nicholas Umbach of Coquitlam is second for Team Tanaka from Tunnel Town Curling Club in Delta while Zachary Umbach is lead with Team Tardi out of the Langley Curling Club.
