A pair of Coquitlam rinks were swept away at the B.C. Junior Curling Championship. But one Tri-City curler still wound up atop the provincial heap.
Team Habkirk out of the Coquitlam Curling Centre finished this week's Tim Hortons B.C. Junior Men's Curling Championship in fourth place with a 3-4 record.
Team Egan, also out of the Coquitlam Curling Centre, went 0-7 at the B.C. Junior Women's Championships. Port Coquitlam's Briana Egan skips the rink of third Caitlin Campbell, second Janice Pang and lead Angelique Miller.
Coquitlam's Ashley Sanderson was lead on Kalia Van Osch's Nanaimo rink that claimed the junior women's championship. Team Van Osch needed an extra end to get past Corryn Brown's Kamloops rink 7-6.
On the junior men's side, Cameron de Jong's Victoria rink doubled the Tyler Tardi rink out of Langley 10-5. Zachary Umbach of Coquitlam was lead for the Tardi rink.
The Habkirk rink - made up of skip Kyle Habkirk, third Ryan Harbrink, second Kevin Harbrink and lead Kento Sato - lost the opener 6-5 to Cameron de Jong's Victoria rink. Habkirk then shaded the Nolan Reid rink out of Victoria 7-6. Langley's Tyler Tardi rink, with Coquitlam's Zachary Umbach at lead, downed the Habkirk crew 7-2. Habkirk also dropped a 10-7 decision to Nick Parker's rink out of the Royal City Curling Club. Habkirk crushed Brendan Cliff's Vernon rink 10-4 before knocking off Beaver Valley's Justin Umpherville 8-2. Team Habkirk were eliminated with a 10-2 loss to Cody Tanaka's Tunnel Town/Langley team that includes Nicholas Umbach of Coquitlam.
