Coquitlam runner in finals for award

Coquitlam's Ryan Pidhirniak is in the running for a major award from Kamloops' Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Division of Athletics.

Coquitlam's Ryan Pidhirniak is in the running for a major award from Kamloops' Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Division of Athletics.

The cross-country running athlete was nominated for a Cliff Neufeld Leadership Award, which goes to competitors that not only excel in their sport but also lead by example with their teammates and in the community.

Each one of the WolfPack's teams have at least one representative for the three major awards, which also include the Doctor Roger H. Barnsley Scholar Athletes and the TRU Sports Task Force Athletes of the Year.

Other nominees for the Cliff Neufeld trophy include cheerleader Logan Geisbrecht from Williams Lake, men's basketball player Brett Parker of Langley and baseball player Lucas Simpson of Aldergrove.

Nominess for the award on the women's side include basketball player Taiysa Worsfold of Kamloops, cheerleader Sydney Goward of Williams Lake, cross-country runner Alesha Miller of Vernon and volleyball player Brianne Rauch of Kimberley.

The Newcomer of the Year, Community Award and the Directors Award will also be announced at the awards banquet, which will be held at the Campus Activity Centre's Grand Hall on Thursday, April 2.
