Coquitlam skater grabs gold in Quebec

Coquitlam skater Brianna Delmaestro took home the top prize at the 2015 Skate Canada Challenge in Quebec in the junior dance category. The young athlete, who is a member of the Coquitlam Skating Club, finished with a 56.

Coquitlam skater Brianna Delmaestro took home the top prize at the 2015 Skate Canada Challenge in Quebec in the junior dance category.

The young athlete, who is a member of the Coquitlam Skating Club, finished with a 56.10 in the short program and an 85.54 in the full program for a total of 141.64.

Delmaestro and teammate Timothy Lun took a commanding lead over second place finishers Daniell Wu and Spencer Soo, who are also from the same B.C./Yukon region.

She was not the only member of the Coquitlam Skating Club to attend the national event.

Benjamin Pap competed in the novice men category, finishing in ninth place with a short program score of 32.58 and a full program score 60.99 for a total of 93.48.

He was accompanied by club member Anthony Kan, who finished 14 in the senior men's category. Kan obtained a 51.55 in the short program and a 95.57 in the full program for a total of 147.12.

Meanwhile, Larissa Horobec also competed in the event.

The senior ladies category athlete skated to a 36.99 in the short program and a 64.33 in the full program for a total of 101.32, finishing in 23rd place overall.

The Coquitlam Skating Club has hundreds of members and has operated out of the Tri-Cities for more than 50 years.
