A Coquitlam sprinter has chased down the award for the province's top junior on the track.
Nathan George was named the 2013 junior male track and field athlete of the year at the B.C. Athletics awards banquet Dec. 7 at the Hilton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond.
George, who competes with the Coquitlam Cheetahs and Trinity Western Spartans, helped Canada to a bronze medal in the 4x400-metre relay at the 2013 Pan American junior championships. He also finished seventh in the 400-m.
George was a double-gold winner - outpacing the field in the 200-m and 400-m - at the 2013 B.C. Track and Field Championships in Kamloops. He claimed silver in the 400-m at the Canadian junior championships.
Port Coquitlam's Brittni Wolczyk was also nominated as the top youth female performer. Wolczyk won gold at the Legion Nationals in the U18 women's javelin with a throw of 48.71 metres.
