Coquitlam's Garofano fourth in junior golf

Trevor Garofano of Coquitlam finished tied for fourth among 20 golfers in the Boys 17-19 age division in a Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour event which wrapped up Sunday at Surrey's Morgan Creek Golf Course.

Garofano, 17, fired rounds of 78 and 79 for a 157 total to knot him with Victoria's Nathan Haussmann.

Calgary's Aaron Crawford shot 75-71-146 to win the category, while 16-year-old Jarde du Toit of Kimberley carded 71-72-143 to capture the tournament's overall crown.

Tom Bang of Coquitlam placed ninth in the Boys 17-19 group with an 81-82-163 score.

In the Boys 14-16 division, Coquitlam's Kevin Vigna posted a 78-74-152 score to finish tied for fifth, nine strokes back of the winner du Toit in the pack of 44 shooters. Vigna placed even with former Coquitlam resident Oscar Baek, now of La Habra, Calif.

Jun Kang of Coquitlam was deadlocked in seventh spot after shooting 76-78-154.

Coquitlam's Jerry Bang carded an 81-79-160 count to finish in a four-way tie for 12th.

The next stop on the Maple Leaf B.C. tour is May 5-6 at Swan-e-set Bay Resort in Pitt Meadows.
