Cressey sidelined as Coquitlam Express get ready for regular season

Coquitlam Express forward Jackson Cressey will miss the club's first couple games of the regular season after a hit-from-behind sent him head first into the boards during an exhibition game against Powell River Friday night.

Coquitlam Express forward Jackson Cressey will miss the club's first couple games of the regular season after a hit-from-behind sent him head first into the boards during an exhibition game against Powell River Friday night.

Coach Barry Wolff told The Tri-City News on Tuesday that the 18-year-old received several stitches to his forehead and will likely miss this weekend's games against Kelowna and Trail in the Interior.

"He went to the hospital and they stitched him up," Wolff said. "Other than that, he is feeling good."

Cressey was carried off the ice on a stretcher during Friday's 4-3 win over Power River. The victory improved the team's pre-season record to 2-3.

Wolff said the club was anxious to being the regular season and begin their quest to defend the Fred Page Cup, the B.C. Hockey League's top trophy.

"We are excited to get going," he said. "You never really know what you have until you play a few regular season games."

Coquitlam will play its first home games on Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27 when the Prince George Spruce Kings visit the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex for back-to-back matches.
