Chase Danol scored a hat trick and Connor Gregga added four assists, but it still wasn’t enough as the Coquitlam Express lost to the Chilliwack Chiefs, 7-5, in their BC Hockey League game Saturday at the Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period, with Coquitlam’s goal coming from Danol.

Joshua Wildauer then put the visitors in front 3:17 into the second period. But the Chiefs responded with three goals of their own to carry a 4-2 advantage to the third period.

The teams exchanged goals three times in the final frame, with Danol scoring twice for the Express.

Clay Stevenson faced 30 shots in Coquitlam’s net, while his teammates fired 32 shots at Chiefs’ goalie Nolan Hildebrand.

The Chiefs’ win moves them to within a point of the Mainland division leading Prince George Spruce Kings, while the Express are in third place, 11 points back of Chilliwack, but six ahead of the fourth-place Langley Rivermen.

Those Rivermen will be the opposition in the Express’ next game, Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.
