The Coquitlam Chargers maintained their hold on first place with a 29-6 win over the Cloverdale Leopards Sunday at Mackin Park.

The Coquitlam Chargers maintained their hold on first place with a 29-6 win over the Cloverdale Leopards Sunday at Mackin Park.

Big runs from Martin Norman and Matt Shuen powered the Chargers to a 15-0 first quarter lead in the bantam division contest. The Coquitlam defence, led by Devon Paul, Rylan Smaaslet, Matt McAloney and Darrel Gelera, held the Leopards of the scoresheet for the first half.

Cloverdale managed to get on the board in the third quarter but touchdowns from Norman and Shuen quickly silenced any hopes of a Leopard comeback. Bowen Goldale racked up some big gains to help the Chargers chew up the clock in a scoreless fourth quarter.

The Chargers wrap up their regular season when they host the White Rock Titans at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coquitlam Town Centre Park.

The Coquitlam Wildcats couldn't capitalize on a strong start in peewee action Sunday.

KeyShaun Dorsey ran in for a touchdown to cap off the Wildcats' opening drive but the offence could not get back on track and Coquitlam fell to the Royal City Hyacks (Black) 22-6.

Lucas Price, Jordan Allaire and Dorsey all turned in strong defensive performances for the Wildcats.

Coquitlam welcomes the Cloverdale Bobcats to town for the final regular season game that will determine playoff positioning Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Mackin Park.
