Members of the Port Coquitlam Marlins Swim Club had strong showings at the B.C. High School Provincial Swim Championships last week in Richmond.
More than 1,100 swimmers from 93 schools competed in the event, with several local athletes taking home medals in their individual competitions.
Riverside secondary's 200 m medley relay team, consisting of Jasmin and Sara Whelan, Brooke Ancell and Lindsey Cauley got the meet off to a strong start, winning their category and setting a new provincial record in the process. The team also snagged a bronze medal in the 400 m free relay against a pool full of tough competition.
All four swimmers got their start with the PoCo Marlins, before moving on to year-round clubs in Burnaby and Vancouver.
Another Riverside athlete that had success last week was Foster Dolling, who won individual silver and bronze medals in the 50 back and 100 IM finals.
In total points, Riverside's team finished 13th out of 93 schools that competed.
A few Terry Fox secondary swimmers also made it to the podium last week.
Alyssa O'Connor took gold in the 100 IM final and silver in the 50 fly. The school won bronze in the 200 free relay, a team that consistent of O'Connor, Taylor Clark and Kassandra Richard.
Fox also earned valuable points in the 200 m mixed free and medley relays, with a team made up of Ben Nichols, Adam Prelowski, Hannah O'Connor and Natalia Dziekciowski. The school wrapped up the event in 15th place.
Archbishop Carney secondary swimmer Weronika Kumorkiewcz rounded out the list of Marlins swimmers to make a trip to the podium when she took silver in the 50 m final.
