A four-goal lead was not enough for the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs. The Chiefs fell 8-5 to their Lower Mainland rival Vancouver Northwest Giants in front of a hometown crowd at Planet Ice in Coquitlam Saturday.
Coquitlam's Matthew Hermary scored twice and Brodie Crawford, Caleb Fantilo and Sam Chung, all of Coquitlam, provided singles to stake the Chiefs to a 5-1 lead after the first period. But the Giants stormed back with seven unanswered goals to complete the comeback in the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League tilt.
The two teams were back on the ice Sunday in a penalty-filled affair at the Burnaby Winter Club. Port Coquitlam's Jeff Wong converted a feed from Parker Colley for the Chiefs only goal in a 6-1 loss.
The Chiefs return to the ice Feb. 15 when they host the Valley West Hawks. The Chiefs currently sit in fourth place, six points up on the sixth-place Hawks. For more on the Chiefs, visit http://northeastchiefs.com.
