A pair of Tri-City hockey products have found new homes.
The Vancouver Canucks have signed Port Coquitlam's Zach Hamill.
Hamill played his minor hockey in Port Coquitlam, before moving on to the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League.
Hamill is originally a draft pick of the Boston Bruins, selected eighth overall in the 2007 NHL Draft. Last year, he spent the American Hockey League season with three different teams - Hershey Bears, San Antonio Rampage and Milwaukee Admirals - collecting a total of 44 points in 72 regular season games. He has four assists in 20 career NHL games.
Meanwhile, Nick Buonassisi of Coquitlam has joined the UBC Thunderbirds hockey team.
"Nick brings excellent speed and is very good on the forecheck," said T-birds head coach Milan Dragicevic. "He has shown throughout his WHL career that he can score and produce points. An added bonus is that he also has the ability to play either wing or centre."
In five years in the WHL with Prince George, Lethbridge and Brandon, Buonassisi played 339 regular season games, scoring 64 goals and adding 107 assists for 171 career points.
"UBC is the top academic school in the country, has world-class facilities and is close to home, making it an easy decision to join the program," said Buonassisi. "The hockey team is improving every year and I am looking forward to being part of it."
