Hickey scores seven in Adanacs loss

Coquitlam Adanacs forward Brett Hickey continued his climb up the Western Lacrosse Association's scoring leader board.

Coquitlam Adanacs forward Brett Hickey continued his climb up the Western Lacrosse Association's scoring leader board.

The 24-year-old runner tallied seven points (three goals and four assists) in a losing effort against the Nanaimo Timbermen on Sunday night, adding to the five he notched in the season opener the weekend prior. His point total is good enough for fifth place in the league, behind Nanaimo's Cody Bremner.

The Timbermen opened the scoring in Sunday's loss, but Kyle Dobbie was able to knot things up at one apiece before the end of the opening period.

Coquitlam's Ryan Keith managed to put his team ahead early in the second but Nanaimo was able to notch five unanswered goals in a row to take a commanding lead.

Jesse Guerin made it 6-3 for the Adanacs before Hickey notched two short-handed markers to round out the second period.

Nanaimo kept up the pressure in the third with two goals from Jamie Sorensen, before Hickey was able to pick up the hat trick and Brian Gillis potted Coquitlam's seventh of the game.

The Adanacs were unable to add to their total and the team eventually lost 9-7.

Coquitlam continues its road trip this weekend in Victoria, before taking on Langley next Wednesday in the Fraser Valley. The club returns home on June 7 for a bout against the Burnaby Lakers at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. Faceoff is at 7 p.m.
