The Coquitlam Adanacs scored the first seven goals of the game and rolled to an 11-6 victory over the Port Coquitlam Saints in a showdown of BC Junior A Lacrosse League crosstown rivals on Wednesday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
The win solidifies the Adanacs position atop the league standings, seven points ahead of the Saints, who are now tied with the New Westminster Salmonbellies after they beat the Langley Thunder, 11-8, on Tuesday.
The Adanacs held a 6-0 lead at the end of the first, then increased that to a seven goal margin when Dennon Armstrong scored three minutes after the break.
The Saints got three of those back on goals by Connor Frost and Dylan Foulds, with a pair.
But the Adanacs replied with a three-goal run of their own to restore their converted touchdown advantage by the time the third period was half over.
Armstrong and John Hofseth each had a pair of goals and two assists to lead the Adanacs’ attack, while the Saints’ Foulds finished the night with three goals and an assist.
The Saints did manage to outshoot the Adanacs, 37-34. They’ll face the Salmonbellies Friday at the PoCo Rec Centre before travelling to Nanaimo on Saturday for a game against the Timbermen.
The Adanacs play next against the Burnaby Lakers on Monday at Copeland Arena in Burnaby.
• Three members of the PoCo Saints Bantam A2 team will be in Denver, Colo., July 2-4, to participate in the World Series of Youth Field Lacrosse. Nolan Ross, Tyler Learn and Liam McLoughlin will play for Elite British Columbia, one of 24 teams from as far away as Israel entered in the tournament.
